I can't think of a better way to clear the brain than a day of
fishing with Fred. I have been on several guided trips including
fly fishing on Salmon River in Pulaski, NY and also Chittenango Creek.
On one occasion I even talked my husband into joining me! After years
of spin fishing he finally tried his luck at fly fishing. It was a beautiful
fall day on Salmon River and Fred took us to the most gorgeous places
there.
I've been fishing since I was a little girl and had inherited
most of my grandfather's fly gear. I used to practice casting in
the yard for hours but had never known anyone who could actually
show me how to fly fish. When I heard about a ladies fly fishing
retreat years ago in Pulaski NY, hosted by Fred, I met him for
the first time and his enthusiasm about the sport has had me
hooked ever since. He has taught me the importance of matching the hatch,
how to work on my different casting techniques, and how to read the river.
In the middle
of the day, Fred always pulls out the biggest spread for lunch
which includes some of the best sandwiches I've ever had.
He is a patient and knowledgeable teacher. He's the perfect guide
no matter what your level of experience is. A day on the river
with Fred is better than a week of vacation anyplace else!

Very excellent here sir! Wishing you all the best in the new year! It
is impossible for me to think back on memories of time along
Great Lakes waters, life around Pulaski, salmon fishing and steelheading
without reflecting with big grins about our time shared working,
or at the LOSA seminar, or wetting lines (and landing some nice
fish too!) in whatever Mother Nature threw at us. Your appreciation
and respect for the natural resources of the region have always
been sincere, heartfelt and greatly appreciated by me. I know
we don't catch up often enough across the miles there buddy but
certainly wishing you an excellent year ahead and hope to wade
beside you again soon in the New Year.

Fred is a class act. From soup to nuts, he made my first Salmon River
visit a life long memorable experience.
I will make it a point to come back and fish with him again.
Fred, U DA BOMB!! Keep rocking!

This summer day was made for fishing…overcast,
mild and little wind. The mosquitoes had taken a vacation somewhere
away from the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY. The water was
the usual summer flow at about 185 cfs. Fred brought a variety
sweet rod and reel combos to fish with. This was to be 4lb
line spin fishing day. He would ask if I wanted to fish for
Bass, Atlantic Salmon or Rainbow and Brown Trout on each
section we went to that day, and then he would choose which
equipment that would be appropriate. Fred explained in detail,
the “where's and how to's” to get the most out
of each hole and run, (with his usual wry sense of humor).
He
could tell I had some experience fishing with this type of
gear, but I felt a little uneasy using them on such a large
body of water. I just put myself in his hands and didn't
let that feeling get in the way of really enjoying the day.
He has his favorite lures and tackle for the conditions and
time of year and that proved to be right on, for each section
we fished.
I wound up catching almost all the possible types of
fish available for this time of year. The catching was fun but
the best part of the day was being with someone who knows
and understands what it means to be a part of nature and
all her gifts and resources.

Fred is simply a blast to have as a guide! His thorough knowledge
of fly fishing always adds to a wonderful learning experience, and
combined with his unstoppable humor, you're simply bound to have
as an amazing day as I had. Not to mention, all the outstanding goodies
he brings along as well. YUM! Thanks Fred for a wonderful adventure! Hopefully
I can be able to get down that roll cast you showed me someday.

I don't typically measure a day by fish caught, it's the icing - just
this time it was particularly good icing...
JeanAnn was ecstatic about her new fishing abilities, bubbling with words like "trajectory" and "ambidextrous";
my best memory from Sunday was her consistent laughter from across the river
- just can't put a price on that.
I've taken 10 day vacations that weren't as
rejuvenating as those 2 days.
Thanks for being a part of that, hopefully we'll connect again
this fall if not sooner.

Fred, great website. I have never used your services but would like to
say that I do remember you when you were the guy at the DSR that
would keep it a quality place to fish the SR. You were a class
act then and I'm sure that anyone that uses your services would
get MORE than what they paid for. Here's wishing you a great season
and keep up the good work in trying to improve the fishery. :-)
- Jack, Pennsylvania
Can't think of a better person to take up guiding. Thanks for all the
sage fishing advice! See you on the stream.

Great website, Fred. Really top notch. Hope to be hiring you soon for a
great day of Steelhead fishing on the beautiful Salmon River.
